November 4 - 9

Monday: It's getting cold outside!  First time of the season feeling the cold air in my lungs.  Feels good!  I felt like I had really good posture and form today.  Got some new running clothes for the colder weather.  My run felt easy today... kept a great pace!

Tuesday: rest... I guess!  The kids were home today.  I told myself I'd run on the treadmill, but worked all day.

Wednesday: 9 miles outside.  I thought I'd pressed start on the Garmin, but nope!  So I waited and started it where I thought mile 1 was.  I was wrong!  I know where mile 4 is so I stopped it there and began again for the last 5.  I know where my pace was mostly.

Thursday: 25 minutes cross train with weights and aerobic.

Friday: 6 on treadmill.  I felt tired and wanted to watch TV, so I ran on the treadmill.  An easy 8/mile pace @ 2 incline.

Saturday:  13 outside.  It was windy.  I wore my long pants, w/ compression sleeves under.  Nike, thicker top and beanie.  I was a little warm.  I could've gone with capri's or lighter top.
I did a mid day run so of course my pooper was off.  I felt sickish around mile 5.  Had to stop and squeeze at 5.5!!!  I overcame though!  Mind over matter!  I didn't stop to go the whole time!  That is a big freaking deal to me!  I'm sure it affected my performance a little, and I was sick at home for a couple of hours, but I did it!
I contemplated doing 15, a few times, but didn't.  I'm not sure I'll reach my goal for this half.  I know I'll finish.  I don't know if I'll run it in 1:35, which I'd like to do.
My goal for this run was to do 1M warm-up at 7:45, then run 2 @ 7:30 and 1 @ 7:15 ish... 4 times.  I actually did better than I felt I did.  I'm pretty close.  I just need to amp up my last 3 miles.  I think this week I'll run a 10 mile pace @ 7:30/mile instead of adding that speed mile in.  I may have more in the tank for the last 3 on race day.
I am in the second coral, just after the seeded and elite runners!  I went back and forth in my brain my whole run... pressure, choking, why did I put down that time?  such nonsense!  I had to keep talking to myself... just run!  Just run!  I put 1:35 as a finish time because that is my goal!  Try to reach it!  Run hard!

October 28 - November 2

Monday:  Easy 5 miles...

Tuesday: It was rainy... did 5 on the treadmill.  Usual workout.
 All @ 8/mile
M1 2 incline
M2 @ 3 & 4
M3 @ 5, 6, 7, 8
M4 @ 4
M5 @ 2 and 7.5 pace

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: tempo run, this time wanted to add one more mile in the middle of tempo speed.  It fell a little, but mostly hit my goal.

Friday:

Saturday: 8 on treadmill.  Easy 8/mile pace.  Was going to do 14 today, but ended up being busy.  Need to get those done on Friday's!

October 21- 26

Tuesday: 6 miles

Yep, that's it!  Just one day... slacker!

October 14 - 19

Monday.
Easy 5 miles outside.  I went for an evening run, didn't get a long run in.  I am SO busy with photog right now... was getting anxious watching the day pass and not going.  Finally stepped away and got out.  Forgot how nice it is to run evenings.  Felt good.  I always need a good run.
Need to feel what an 8 pace feels like.  I always start thinking I'm running that pace, but I'm not!

Tuesday.
Nothing!  Spent the day w/ Damita.  Wish I'd gone in the morning, but didn't.  No guilt!  It's ok....  Sometimes I need to tell myself to relax, enjoy the journey, it's ok if the day you miss is a Tuesday instead of Wednesday!  Relaaaaaaxxx!

Wednesday.
Did a 7 mile pace.  Tried to stay steady.  Felt good.

Thursday.
Pushed E in the stroller for 4.  Glad to get it done early to have time to edit while he's at school.  It doesn't matter how strong I think I am, if I've not been pushing the stroller those runs just feel harder!  The whole changing of posture, lack of arm swings, more weight, all of it... it's a challenge.

Friday.
Long run today 13.  Saturday looks like rain, plus I have photo shoots all morning.  Getting it done!
It was a beautiful run, I felt really good.  I wanted to try to stay at around an 8 pace for the first 8, then amp it up to 7:30 for the last 5 miles.
I drank at 4, fueled w/ G shots at 6, drank again around 8, one more shot at 10.
I had some fuel in the tank still.  I'm happy with my time for this distance... for now.  I haven't run it for a while.
My goal is, of course to get faster!

Saturday.
I'm so glad I got my long run done!  It's weird just doing 3 miles on a Saturday!  The shoots went well, and then the rain came!  I ran on the treadmill and had a phone call at 3... I called it finished then!  8 pace for this run.

October 7 - 12

My calves have been so sore lately!
I may need to switch to my cushioned shoes to shake it up a bit.  Which is worse, sore calves or sore glutes?  Glutes feel worse to me, so I wear my minimal shoes!

Monday...
blah day... no running...

Tuesday.
The sun was shining and I felt all better.  This fall weather has been amazing.  I don't recommend doing speed work after 2 days of no running.  I warmed up the first half mile, but it wasn't enough for me to feel like I was on my legs.  Oh well.  We keep going!  I did 5 miles of speed.  I did half at 5k speed maybe (I don't really know what my 5k pace is), then half rest pace.  I need to experiment with my Garmin a bit.  I thought I new how to do manual laps (other than a mile), but I don't so I had to separate out each 800m.

Wednesday.
Today I was waiting for the FedEx truck.  It was one of those days you are afraid to go anywhere because you don't want to miss your delivery.  I had to sign for it.  I thought it wouldn't come until later in the day, but thought with my luck if I left for a run, my delivery would come!
So, I ran up and down my street!
Speed work again?  In between my 800's I came in and did weights and situps etc.
I did one last set at 8 pace.
I felt a little silly running past the guy who was washing his car... I shouldn't but I did a little!
He was totally still washing cars like 3 hours later!  That's dedication/obsession.
AND the FedEx guy didn't come until after the kids got home

Thursday.
Tempo run.  This was a good run.  My goal was to go 7.  Do 2 @ 8, then 3 @ 7:15 pace, then 2 @ 8.  My last temp the middle 3 were at 7:15-ish I think.  I exceeded my goal, even with 2 days previous speed work!  Maybe that means I didn't push hard enough on my speed workout?!

Friday.
I chose to ride today.  Again with this weather!  I didn't give myself too much time, spent time working.  Always so glad to get out.  I'm in love with this fall.

Saturday.
Supposed to do a LR today... didn't.
Monday?

September 30 - October 5

Monday - 4 miles outside.  I was literally running on empty!  Ate early, ran errands, dropped E off at school then came home to run.  Was hungry, but just went!  I tired at mile 4.  Was going to go 5.  It's good to practice working through fatigue right?
Also took ballet today.

Tuesday- 7 hill on tml.  Had to w/o on tml.  Only time to get it done!
M1 warm up 2 incline 7.5 speed
Rest of the workout at 7.8 speed. Did half mile of each incline the 'down' was back at a 2 incline.
M2 - incline 4, M3 - 5, M4 incline 6, M5 7, M6 8.
M7 - back to 2 incline 7.8 speed.

That last mile hurt! But I promised myself a good rest after... and I made it!

Wednesday - rest
This is my new plan... to rest W then do tempo followed by LR's on Friday.  I have busy Saturday's right now.  I don't want to worry about fitting a long run in.  I'll do a recovery run that day and rest Sunday per usual.

Thursday - tempo... nope!  I ended up going for a ride w/ Molly... we went out to Lockport.  It was fun, but the trail we intended to ride on was not paved.  We got a little way, then had to turn around.  We went exploring... there were great hills here!

Friday - LR - I intended to do my long run... Had I left 5 minutes sooner I'd have been drenched.  I knew there would be some rain and I don't mind running outside in a little.  It was a downpour!  I waited for a bit but it didn't let up.  I decided to run 6 on the treadmill and to go ahead and do my LR on Saturday.  I'd just have to wait until later in the day.
M1 - 7.5 warmup
M 2-6 @ 7.8 speed.
All @ 2 incline

Saturday - recovery - Ended up doing LR today.  Waited until all of my shoots were done.  The weather was beautiful.  Dark and humid, but not rainy.  The training schedule I have has me doing times LR's instead of miles.  Today was 90 minutes.  It was good to get out on my long route.  Coming down the hill my legs felt numb today.  I think running the different days, resting on a W instead of a Th made a difference in my fatigue maybe?

I drank at 4, 7, 10 and fueled at 5, 8.  I had 2 little G squares each time.  My tummy was turning, but I did ok.  It's just mid-day running.  I did feel sick afterwards, blah!

Wore my leg compressions today and yesterday.  My calves have been sore.  They were tight the whole first mile.  I'm working them out, rubbing and stretching constantly.

September 23-28

M - outside 5 miles.  The sun was out today.  It was so beautiful!  I love running in the fall.  I took, what felt like a nice easy run... looking at my times though I don't seem to vary much!  No kids, no music, just me, the sun and running.  It was a good, refreshing run.

I also did some weight training, how I do it... at home with free weights and some creativity!

T - Beautiful bike ride.  I loved it!  This was the first time I've taken music out with me.  I took it out when I was crossing the busy roads.  It was a nice change.  I rode on the bike path.  This was the first time I had my Garmin on the bike.  Pretty cool to see what my bike pace is!

W - Kick butt speed w/o on the tml.  It was beautiful outside, but I like the challenge and surety of the tml.  I like to see the numbers in front of me! (Where did I put this?  I wrote it down so I could check it off as I went, I'll look at input later.  I was pretty proud of my running at 6pace at the end!)
All of w/o done @ 2 incline...
M1 7.5 speed (warmup)

Th- rest

F- Really this is happening too much.  No run today.  Was going to go during school, but just got so busy.  Grrrrr.

S- Did part of my LR outside... 5.5 outside.  Came in to run the rest on the trml.  W/ Matt not being home, a wedding to get ready for... I was a little stressed.  I cut it short to feed kids and get us ready.  I plan to move the LR's to Friday.  Weekends are busy w/ photo shoots in the fall.  I did 7.5 miles total.

September 16-21

M-  5 miles.  After pushing the stroller last week, along with a few days off, my legs felt fresh.  It was nice outside, I went while E was at school.  I kept a good pace, it felt easy and quick.
Ballet at night.

T-  no running, danced.  I really intended to go running, but it just didn't happen.  I took jazz for the first time in a year.  I feel pretty strong, considering I've not taken for a year.  Um, with the exception of leaping... I'm not looking so hot there!  I knew I'd be sore after this class!

W - 7.5 miles.  Ran during school again.  The days are feeling like fall now.  Cool unless you are in the sun.  I love running in this!  I felt so good, I loved the sun!
I am trying to focus my 'training' more.  I want to utilize my time, be smart with it.  Normally I just run, I do hill and speed, but am not really focused on the workout of it.  I want to do better with that.

Today I did a tempo run.
My goal: run first 2 at 8/pace.  next 3 at 7:30/pace.  finish last mile with 8/pace.
I need to practice going out calm.  My first mile is usually my fastest!

It was a great run!  I kept my pace nice and calm, then amped it up at M3.  I ended up running faster than planned.  I felt great the first mile, then wondered where the end of the second was, I sort of felt I was slowing, but kept pace.  Third mile I had to refocus... concentrate on my breath and talk myself through the last .25.
Despite being sore from dance last night my legs weren't that worn out.  It was more my feeling of lacking air.
Last mile ended up being 1.5.  This seemed to tire my legs more than the rest of my run!
It was a success!

Th- went to set up the scout hike with Molly at Reinstein woods.  We ran to each clue, around the 1.4 mile loop 4 or was it 5 times?  Starting and stopping, yes, but it was quite fun.  I don't trail run at all and I really enjoyed running through the trees, plus I was with Molly!  Good times.

F- nothing!  I am so sore!  I really did intend to go at least 4, but the day got away from me.

Sat- 11 miles on treadmill.  It was pouring outside.  I didn't mind so much, I haven't been on the trml for a long time.  I kept it at a steady 8/mile.  I got up and ate oatmeal, then kept pushing my run back... we put up a new closet organizer... I was starting to get hungry, but didn't want to eat prior to my run.  I felt it at the end.
I fueled w/ G-rade, and chews at miles 4 and 8.
I felt really dehydrated the rest of the day.  Need to pay better attention to that before, during and after.

September 9-14

Really 3 days that's it?
I feel so crazy!  My mileage is so low!

Monday I decided to wait because I'm taking dance in the evenings and I thought it would be a great idea to work out before dance so I'm not showering several times a day.  Efficient right?
It didn't work so much.  With cooking, eating, cleaning up dinner, there is no time for a run before dance.  Note taken, must run in the mornings on Mondays!

Tuesday I decided to do a mid day run, you know use the time while E is at pre-k.  Well it just so happened to be one of the hottest days this month, and most humid too!  I was dyyyying at both the heat and humidity.  I'm not sure about mid-day runs too... I need to figure out the eating schedule and such.  I felt sick the last bit, and didn't feel well until after dinner.

Wednesday - Pushed E in the stroller.  This boy is awesome!  I love that he'll go for a ride with me.  He doesn't mind just sitting there.  I'm glad I didn't get rid of the stroller, was going to this spring.  I think I'll keep it until next year.  Man pushing the stroller is hard!  It was windy too!  I had to walk for a minute around mile 3.  E asked if I was ok, then gave me some of his water!  It's a good workout!

Thursday - Pushed E again.  We got rained on, but that was just fine!  I like running after we walk Q to school.  I think we'll stick with that for a while.  Pushing the stroller will only make me stronger right?

Friday- Went to Reinstein right after taking Q to school.  Hiked and ran around in there a bit.  I wish I could get out of bed early to go.  It's getting darker in the mornings, I should use that last little bit of time for good morning runs.

Saturday - M out of town, watched kids, so no long run.  Haven't been for a long time.  :(  Must get out next week.

September 2 - 7

Well, I've taken some time off!
I stopped keeping track in UT after Matt arrived!
I was really good the week of the 12-17 and even went on a 30 mile bike ride, up the mountain that Saturday.
Matt and I did some hiking and I ran.

The last week of our UT trip I took a week off!  Matt and I went hiking up Big Cottonwood one day, but other than that I took it easy and relaxed.

The week we came home August 26-31 was crazy with getting ready for school, appointments, time adjustment.  I ran twice, a 4 and a 5 then went on a 32 mile bike ride w/ Molly on Saturday.

This past week was even more like my regular schedule, but I still missed a few days.
I've been using my Garmin and love it!  (need to update my times)

Monday 4 M
Wednesday 5 M
Thursday 8 M

Ran the dirty girl on Saturday.  Well, didn't really run it, but did it!

I am debating the fall marathon.  I need to get going or I feel I won't be ready.  There are 2 I'm looking at in November.  I'll hit it hard this week.  I hope it will feel more like our new schedule.

Look here... now I can keep my record online at Garminconnect!  Love it!  I'll still keep this log.  I like to look back at specifics from each run.

August 12 - August 18

Monday: ran 5 miles ish.  I'm not sure really but figure it's somewhere around there when I go for like 40 ish minutes!

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

August 5 - August 11

It has felt good to be off training a bit.  I of course don't want to stop completely, but it's been nice to feel like I can just go out and feel good w/o having to be a certain speed or hit certain miles.

Monday: ran along the trail up here by Cand, love it, it's so pretty.  I think I ran about 4.5 - 5 miles.

Tuesday: ran/walked w/ Cand.  Very emotional, hard to find strength to run.  Went same distance as Monday, took longer.

Wedesday: Cycling w/ Sara and Jane... 20 or so miles

Thursday: rest

Friday: cycling w/ Sara and Krista... 16 miles maybe?

Saturday: ran 10 miles w/ Haley.  So loved that.  10 miles.

Monday, July 29, 2013

July 29 - August 3

Monday: Thought I'd run 5 miles today.  My left calf is still pretty locked up.  Lifted some weights and swam today.  Did maybe 1000 meters swim today.  Later today my left quad is knotted.  I'll try to run tomorrow and see if I can work out these kinks!

Tuesday:  Ran about 4 miles I think.  Not particular about miles as much as time.

Wed: swam

Thursday: rest

Friday: run 5 miles

Saturday: bike ride 40 minutes

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

July 22 - 27

Monday: 3.25 miles.  23:24.  Ran 2.5 at regular pace (7:20) then did some speed for the last .75.

Tuesday: 2.67 miles.

Wednesday: Marathon!  26.2 miles 3:52:12 (8:52 pace)

Thursday: rest

Friday: rest 3 mile bike ride

Saturday and Sunday rest!

July 15 - 20

Monday:  I'm in UT!!!  I am for sure tired, need to make up sleep, but I got up to run.  The air has been cool in the mornings, pleasant surprise.  I'm tapering now, so today ran 5.05 miles.  38:07 (7:30).  Sort of nice to just go off of memory from my routes last year.  Looking more at time, then come home to map what I did.  Hills!!!!  Bam, right at the beginning of my run, to get out of this neighborhood!  It's good for me!  Glad that they haven't affected my time much.  I would love to just run down hill for marathon prep, but what goes down, must have an up somewhere!  It's nicer running in Lindon than WVC, more scenic!

Tuesday: 4.35 miles, 32:50 (7:32)  Ran up a monster hill today!  Wanted to come down for more miles.  I don't know that I can prepare my legs for what is ahead!  I'll just have to deal with being sore!  I'm hoping to run down the canyon for 8 tomorrow, but we'll see if that is in the cards.  Tapering... Sometimes I get anxious about not running 10 miles, but really it's nice, being on vacation and all!

Wedesday: 8.28 miles 59:23 (7.11) Scott took me up the canyon, was a great run.

Thursday: rest

Friday 4.30 miles  31:30 (7:20)

Saturday: 5.25 miles 38:30 (7:20)

July 8 - 13

Monday: 5 treadmill.  M1 7.5, M2 8, M3 8 - 8/3, M4 8.3 - 8.5, M5 8.5 - 9 up to 10 at the end.

Tuesday: 8 with Natalie.  (1:03)  My time is off just a little, but we were about 8/mile.  A little slower than I've been running, but I don't care, it was so good to run w/ her!  My legs were sore after this run though... crazy!  Had to potty break twice, also crazy.  She told me about Imodium and I'm going to try that on my Saturday run.

Wednesday: rest/edit all day!

Thursday: Hill repeats 5 miles.  Couldn't find my watch, but this is the day it doesn't matter!  They hurt my legs more than I remember from last time.  I'm never sore after, but my legs were burning this w/o.

Friday: Tired legs = bike ride, which still burned, just in different areas!  Went 15 miles.  Felt good to be on my bike, I'll miss it for the next 6 weeks.  Wonder about coming back and going right into the Olympic tri... Feel I'll need to cycle in UT to be ready.  I want to swim at least 1/wk too.

Saturday:  12 miles 1:30: 34 (7:32)  This was a good run.  I ate 1/2 bagel and 1/2 yogurt for bfast.  I took Imodium to try... worked... didn't poop for the next two days!  If that is what it takes to get me through a marathon w/o pooping I'll take it!!!  I did take G-rade and some chews.  May as well hydrate and fuel no matter the distance, so I can run my best.  Felt a little tired first 4.  Took me a minute to settle in.  Felt very strong finishing.  The last 4 felt good and easy.  Ran first 4 in 30:25, next 4 in 29: 51, then last 4 in 30: 17.  I think I'll try to watch my miles every 4 or 5 miles with the marathon, to make sure I'm on pace.  Now I taper, marathon in less than two weeks!

Monday, July 8, 2013

July 1 - July 6

Monday: 5 tml workout with hills.

Tuesday: 8

Wednesday: cross train at home 40 minutes.

Thursday:  22 miles.  Went 14 outside then finished 8 on the treadmill.  I prepped well for this run.  I ate a bigger lunch then ate a small dinner.  I ran the whole time w/o stopping for a potty break.  I left at 6.  The humidity was tough.  At the hill I had to stop for a second to catch my breath, tough.  It started raining at mile 14 so I called M to come and get me.  Not really to get out of the rain, I was drenched head to toe, but again, I'd run out of fluid, underestimating just how freaking bad the humidity was... it was like 90% humid!  We got home and I went downstairs to finish.  I could breath just fine and finished.  I ran the 14 in 1: 50 ish (7:50) then ran the 8 in 1:04.  I kept it at a 7.5 (8 pace).  It feels good to have that done and under my belt prior to the marathon.

Friday: rest

Saturday: ran while up camping.  did at least 4 then maybe a mile of sprints.  I was more concerned about getting at least 40 minutes in.

Monday, June 24, 2013

June 24 - 29

I've got to say that I finally feel like I'm getting back to myself.  I've still got some lb's to lose, but I'm on my way.  It's frustrating feeling like I'm back to my regular running, but my body isn't back to it's weight.  I'm getting there.

Monday: 5 outside.  37:16 (7:27)

Tuesday: bike w/ Molly, 15 miles

Wednesday: 6 outside 44:04 (7:20)

Thursday: rest

Friday: 6.63 48:10 (7:15) outside... it was so humid today!  I was a sweaty mess, plus I left a little later in the morning.  It is good training for me to run in the heat.  It was hard, not gonna lie!  I was hauling the first 4 miles... finished that at 28 min. which is right at the top of a 7/mi.  I slowed down a bit, my legs were burning!  I saw my neighbor just before mile 5 and stopped for a minute to talk to her.  That was a good breather and I feel like I slowed down a bit after that.  I feel all crazy out of whack, not knowing anymore what my comfort pace is!  I thought I was going 7 miles, but that time was so fast I double checked my route... 6.6!

Saturday: 8 miles.  1:01 (7:38) My intention was to run 12 today.  I just couldn't.  I felt light headed, I tell you this humidity is killing me!  I hadn't taken any fluid with me, usually I'm fine through 8 miles.  I thought about going out to finish after I stopped at the house for a drink, but I want to run 22 on Wednesday or Thursday since we'll be camping over the weekend.  It's just fine.

Monday, June 17, 2013

June 17 - 22

Monday: Pushed boys in stroller.  Tough workout!  Felt I'd be super slow.  Kept my pace and finished the 5 miles at 38:06 (7:37).  The stroller makes you stronger!  Felt much better after I dropped O off!  Was lighter!  May try this again.  Boys aren't so interested in riding anymore, but it's fun to take O to school in the stroller!

Tuesday: Up at 5:40 am, took off at 6 for 10 miles before the kids go to school.  Cool this morning.  I need to take my camera out with me, came up on 6 deer and scared them!  Usually it's the other way around!  Felt fatigue at the end.  Didn't take any fluid or fuel w/ me.  Did drink some chocolate milk before going.  1:16:43 (7:40)

Wednesday: rest

Thursday: 7 miles hills.  Did hill repeats up Youngs.  It was tough the last mile, but we got it done!

Friday: 4 tml.  My legs were sore from hills and I wanted to conserve some strength for my long run.

Saturday:  Wanted to actually go 22 miles.  I want to train a full 3 hours before this marathon.
My prep the night before was good as far as timing.  I ate around 5:30, before my shoot, and didn't eat after that.  I only had a bowl of Ramen noodles... I was in such a hurry!  I don't think it was enough of a carb load, but the timing was good for me.  I didn't have to stop at all on my long run!
I got up at 5, ate oatmeal and had chocolate milk.  I took a gu and gu chomps out with me.  I don't think the chomps work as well for replenishing.  I ate 2 at a time and had to refuel with them more often.  I totally ran out of liquid at mile 14.  It was a hot morning, which is good practice for UT.  I just couldn't do it w/o more Gatorade.  I only ran 18, and those last 2 miles were hard on me.  I was parched!
My right foot is feeling funky too!  My toes are bruised.  So funny because last 20 miler was just fine.  I had shin splints from my hill w/o so that carried over into my run.  My shins have been a bit sore recovering.
I definitely think two weeks is optimal for jumping up in miles, but I'm at least building stores making my body do these long runs every other week.  I hope to do the 22 week after next.
My overall time was like 2 hrs 40 min.  My watch was off there at the end, I forgot to start it at a light.  I kept a good pace until my hydration issue.

Monday, June 10, 2013

June 10 - June 15

Monday: 5 tml.  M1 7.5 @ 2 incline.  M2 7.5 @ 3 and 4 incline.  M3 7.5 @ 5-8 incline.  M4 7.5 @ 4 incline.  M5 8 @ 4 incline.

Tuesday: Melissa called to take E.  Totally took advantage of that to go and cycle.  Went 15 miles.

Wednesday: Glorious ride w/ my man in the evening.  Look forward to more of these.  Went a little slower than normal for me.  13 miles.

Thursday: rest (weights and xtrain)

Friday: was going to go 5.  got up early.  had to make a pit stop at 4.6 here at home.  didn't go back out, got kids ready for school.

Saturday: rode 25 miles.  felt good.  knees have felt a little off, was good to stay off them a bit this week.  miss my bike.  so enjoyed the sun on my face.  my legs got a great workout!

June 3 - June 8

Monday: cycled path.  13 miles.
Did 5 miles on tml shortly after that.  My feet were numb for the first mile.  Warm up 1M 2 incline & 7.5.  M2 incline 3 and 4.  M3 climb up to 8, stay there for .25 of M4.  Down to 4 incline, speed up to 7.8.  M5 up to 8, drop incline back to 2.  9 speed for .25 and finished at 10 for .25.

Tuesday: 7.8 miles outside 56:29 (7:14).  Hit mile 4 at 29:12 (7:18).  Told myself to slow down at mile 4, then realized this is where I've been working to be.  Go w/ it.  Push!  Be fast, work hard!

Wednesday: tml speed w/o.  7x800's.  Incline is always set to at least 2.  Did 1 mile warmup at 7.5.  Did the first 3 800's at 8.5, did one at 8 by mistake, then did 3 at 9.0.  Did last one at 9.5.

Thursday: rest

Friday: 8 on the tml.  I had set my alarm so I could go outside, but I must have done something wrong, because it didn't go off.  Oh well.

Saturday: 20 miles outside.  2:36:48 (7:50)  Great run.  I felt strong, kept great pace, didn't feel hard.  Very glad to have one under my belt.  I want to get a full 3 hours of training in, so I think I'll go 22 or 23 before I start to taper.  My intent was to get 3 20's in.

May 27- June 1

Monday: rest.  Raced on Sunday

Tuesday: 5 tml.  38 min.  Ran @ 7.5 M1 then 7.8 the rest.  Last mile @ 8

Wednesday: 4 outside.  30:38  My legs felt tired!  I was going to go 6 but didn't.
Swam 2000 meters.  Wanted to get a good workout in since I didn't complete my run.  Did it under and hour, maybe 50 minutes.  I need to time myself.

Thursday: rest, some weights and situps

Friday: 7 outside 49:44 (7:06)  got to mile 4 at 29:29 (7:22).  I was feeling it in my thighs again, tired!  Maybe that is why.  Sometimes I feel it hurts more to slow down, it changes my rhythm so it seems to hurt more.  I stay pretty consistent, whatever pace I start with.  I had to stop a couple of times.  Wore my larger shoe and was fine this time, may not be a waste of my $!  This time can't be right, I stopped my watch but walked a little, shaving off some of the mileage.  I'm sure it's closer to 7:22... right?

Sat: 18.  Before I start, sometimes eating in the morning is so hard.  Have to pump myself up for long run, part of my pshyche wonders if the other part is crazy and should take all of me back to bed!
Apparently that isn't the best way to start a long run!  I only went 11 miles.  1:23:40 (7:36) This was one of the more tough runs I've been on.  I wore my old shoes, my pack felt heavy, my legs felt heavy, it was hotter than normal.  I was fighting my mind the whole time!  Apparently I was going too fast for myself!  I stopped several times, the Youngs hill about beat me into the ground.  It was tough.  Then, after I stopped, decided I couldn't finish I felt guilty, but mostly thirsty!  I'll try again next week.  As far as prep goes I felt good.  My pooper felt fine, no urges (this has been my Achilles heel).  I had most of a Chipotle salad the night before. It was later than I'd like to have eaten, but turns out it was ok, wonder if lighter foods are better for me than heavy carbs.  Ate oatmeal tried to drink chocolate milk, couldn't.

May 20-25

Mon: 5 up early to run outside!  Foot hurt!  By the end I was ok.  Everything else was fine!  Love the quiet of the morning.  38:31 (7:42}

Tue: 4 Tml.  L foot still annoyed.  No swelling and it went away today after I ran for a bit.  Went to bed late, didn't get up to go, worked all day, but got 4 in right before dinner.

Wed: Cycle today, first time out on the bike this year.  Giving the foot a rest!  13 miles.

Thur: rest

Friday: 6 tml

Saturday: 4 easy w/ Natalie downtown

Sunday: Buffalo Half Marathon 1:39 (7:35 pace)

May 13-18

Mon: 5 tml.  M1: 7.5 mph, M2: 8, M3: 4 and 6 incline half mile each, M4: 4 incline, M5: 8mph

Tue: 10.05 outside.  This is E's last week in preschool.  I cherish this couple of hours to run by myself... and I don't have to get up early!  I started thinking I was going to do a ladder, but you can see my first 2 miles are minimally slower than my next 2.  After I ran a mile a bit slower, then sped up for the next 2.  This split was for the 4 miles though... remember no Garmin for me, so I have to go by memory of where my miles are.
1:15:31- total (7:31),  14:59 (first 2 7:29)  14:39 (next 2 7:19)  29:47 (next 4 7:26)  16:04 (last 2 cool down 7:50)  I am a little surprised at myself.  I did feel tired at the end, but that is great!  I'm very happy with this performance.  I'm still figuring out my pooper!  I've felt really good thus far this season, paying attention to what I eat so I'm good the next day.  Today was off though.  I totally cramped up at mile 5... crazy!  Maybe it was the fiber for bfast?  Who knows!

Wed: 4 tml.  Nice and easy recovery run.  No swimming today.  Photo shoot tonight.

Thurs: xtrain for 35 minutes.  Not dancing as much this year has really done a number on my abs.  I've lost them!  Working on strengthening my legs and arms.

Fri: 6 tml.  Was going to get up early... just couldn't!  I'm so glad I have a treadmill!

Sat: 16.  First 6 on tml.  8/mile.  Next 8 still @ 8/mile.  Last 2 were 9/mile slowed for Q riding her bike.  It's OOOOKKKK!  More important to get the miles on my legs than break records right?  Loved having her with me!

May 6-11

Mon: 5 outside early morning run.  Very nice!  I do enjoy a quiet run in the morning, as it warms up.  37:26 (7:29 pace)

Tue: 7 outside (7:27)

Wed: 5 hill repeats.  Got up early and went to run hill repeats on Youngs.  The hill is about .30 miles, so I just counted each as .25 mile.  Up/down 4x = 1 mile.  My legs hurt by the end!
Swam 1000 m

Thur: rest

Fri: 5 tml.  Was supposed to go 7 or 8, but I felt tired!  Worried about running 15 the next day.  I'm sure I would've been fine.  The 5 felt good and easy.

Sat: 15 miles.  Ran on tml actually!  I started so early and it was rainy I stayed in.  I thought I'd go out half way through, but I didn't.  I ran @ 7.5 = 8 pace.  Ate Gatorade shot blocks.  Haven't tried those for a couple of years, didn't make me sick.  I was hungry @15.  Ate late last night so did stop for a potty break too.  Not too bad at all.  Sometimes as I creep up in these #'s I get anxious before I even start, even though I'm in shape, and have run them before... reassuring that it was just fine!

April 29 - May 4

We are back from the DR.  It was such a great/needed vacation!

Mon: Ran 5 w/ Cand.  We ran around the resort then out to the beach.  We walked a little, but still hit 5.

Tue: Swam 1400 prior to leaving.  Glad I worked out before we left, relieved anxiety.  Loved swimming laps in the sunshine, outside.  Not positive of the pool length, but it's fine!

Wed: so much to catch up on, plus fighting some depression coming home!  Although it's sunny here, and nice!  SO glad for that!  Rest day!

Thur: 8 M outside.  First 4 30:36 (7:39).  Last 4 30:15 (7:33)  Total: 1:0:51 (7:36)  Felt good today.  It's warm outside, I love it!  I felt strong.  While on vacation read RW, an article about our minds.  Needed that.  Feeling like I need to change thinking.  Today was mentally good.

Fri: 6 tml.  Speed workout.  46 min

Sat: 12 miles 1:35 (7:55 pace) Wow.  I'm pretty surprised at this time.  This was a tough run for me.  My legs were tired even before I started.  Good w/o for my brain!  Drank G, ate one pumpkin.  Felt in my tummy but went away.  Have felt good w/ my digestion so far this season.  Haven't had to stop to go at all yet! :)  Ran Casey/Youngs route.

April 21-27

Mon: 5 tml
Tue: 5 outside
Wed: flew to DR!!!  Yea!  Planned to run 5 miles each day... nope!  Rest!
Thur: 5 miles on the beach, barefoot!  This was a tough workout!  I loved running bare foot.  My legs got worked as the sand still shifts around.  I came back drenched!  Humid and sweat.  Great workout... plus I was w/ Cand.  Loved being w/ her.
Fri: swam 1400m
Sat: ....

April 15 - 20

Mon: 5 miles tml.  Hill w/o.  39 min.  Warm up 2 incline @ 7.5.  M2 3 & 4 incline.  M3 5-8.  M4 8 incline.  M5 4 & 2.  Last bit up to 8 and 8.5 mph.

Tue: 7.08 outside.  New shoes!  Forget how good they feel!  Ran M1 @ 7:05.  Didn't get rained on until the end.  Wore running shorts... chafed!  52:26 (7:24).  Boom!  That feels good!  Was going to go 8, however my inner thighs were on fire!

Wed: swim only.  1800 m.  this is a good week for me!  this is the fastest I've swam.  I did this in about the same time I normally do 1400.  I'm trying to not stop in between laps.  I don't do kick turns or anything fancy.  The stopping to turn around is not like continuous swim in a lake!  I'm trying to do better at no breaks in between.  It's challenging to try to slow my pace down in the water.  If I go too fast for myself I can't breathe and that is a challenge when your face is in the water!!!  This was a good week though...

Thurs: 4 outside.  My legs are a little fatigued.  4 was fine for today!  30:06 (7:31)  Again M1 was 7min.  Again w/ the wind, BUUUUUT it felt like spring today... finally!

Fri: Wanted to run, but needed a rest.  Ideally I will get a run and a swim in on Wed, so I can rest Thurs.  I like to run the day before my long runs.  Not this week though.

Sat: 13 miles.  Did 10 outside in the yuck wind and cold.  Last 3 on treadmill so M could take G to baseball.  Since it was only 3 I pushed my time on the treadmill.  I ran M1 @ 7.7, M2 @ 8, M3 moving up to 9.3mph.  My tml time was 22:19 for the 3 miles (7:26).  My first 4 were 31:46 min (7:56).  My next 4 were 31:35 (7:53).  My next 2.13 were 17:07 (8:02)  Overall time outside 1:20:29 (7:56)

April 8-13

Monday: 5 tr.  hill w/o 39min
Tuesday: xtrain 30 min
Wednesday: 5 tml   & swim 1400m
Thursday

Monday: 5 tml. 39.  Today was hard!  I feel heavy and fat.
Tues: 6 tml. 46 min.
Thursday: 5 tml
Friday: 5 tr
Saturday: with Natalie.  felt a bit hard, but we made it!  it's good having a partner on days like this.  I didn't ask her to stop, because she wouldn't do that to me... and she didn't ask me... so we both went 13!  1:46 (8:09 pace)

March 25 - 30

Monday: pooped

Tuesday: 5 tml, 38

Wednesday: intended to run but only swam.  1400 meters in 30-35 minutes?  I need to really start timing myself.  I keep saying it, but I'm getting faster and stronger only swimming 1x/wk.  I was nervous I wouldn't be swimming a full hour, but almost swam a mile.

Thurs: 4 mi tm.

Friday: 5 mi outside.  Kids home, Q bbsat.  So nice to get outside.  38 min.

Sat: 10 miles 1:19 (7:54 pace).  Same loop as couple of weeks ago.  I kept good time, but it felt like I was running through water, hard!

Saturday, March 23, 2013

March 18-23

Mon: 5 tm.  39 min.  No hills today, just ran 7.5 for first 3, 8.0 for last 2.

Rest: I feel tired!

Wed:  swim 2000 meters (1.24 miles) not sure of the time, it was around 50min - hour.
Body amazes me!  Getting stronger.  Last week I cramped up at the end and finished at 54 laps.  The arches of my feet and calves kept cramping.  I had less cramping this week, only in my calf, was able to keep going.  I am SORE though!

Thurs: 5 tml

Frid: 4 tml

Sat: 12 miles 1:39 (8:15 pace).  Ran w/ Natalie.  Did the hill again, went much better this time!  I felt strong as I finished.  I'm getting there!  It's been interesting trying to talk while running!  Not used to that!  At first could barely talk, today I talked N's ear off!

March 11-16

Monday: trm.  ran 'normal workout'.  still have to hop off on the hills to catch my breath, but hopefully soon will make it all the way up the hills w/o a break!  5 miles 39 min.  Mile 1: 2 incline @ 7.5.  Mile 2: 3 incline for .50 then 4 incline for .50.  Mile 3: every .25 up one incline... 5-8.  Mile 4: 4 incline.  Mile 5: 2 incline 8mph.

Tuesday: 8 miles 1:04 (8 pace).  Ran w/ Nat.  Love it.  Felt stronger today... sprinted in.

Wed: swim.  did 30ish min.  (54 laps 20 meter pool) 1080 meters/ .67 miles...
My calf and the arches of my feet were cramping at the very end.  Like, had to get out of the pool w/ my charlie horses!
This week felt much easier.  Did 4 laps of side the whole time, the rest was freestyle.

Thur: xtrain

Fri: was going to run, ended up being a crazy busy day... as was Saturday, but I did get 5 on the trml done.

March 4-9, 2013

This is the day and age!
It will be easiest to keep my running log here now instead of Word!
I tried to write it down, but typing is faster, then I can write notes too.

I'm going to say I've been the laziest this winter.  It seems I stopped running in the fall, to save my knees a bit.  I wanted to spend more time cycling.  I did cycle, but really I just slowed down a lot.
Through the holidays I only ran a couple of times/week.
I've slowly been getting back to it, but have only averaged 3 sometimes 4/week.

This week I'm going for 5!
I feel the kick.
I've finally found a running friend!  Natalie just moved here a few months ago.  She is actually Raquel Sampson's niece.
She is in good shape.  We've been running a few times together.
I hate that it feels hard to me!  I feel like an idiot because I tell her about my races and my times, then I'm like, oh can we walk, I just can't take it!!!!
I've been out of shape!
I keep telling myself it will come back, but I feel weak mentally and that doesn't help me push through my workouts.
This week is different.  I feel the kick.  I want to get back.
I think I was nervous about my knees.  I am.  They creak and crack horribly.  Really, though I feel stronger when I'm running, even though they crack.  So, I may as well run!

My goals for this year are to run the Deseret News Marathon again, and beat my time.
I'd also like to do an olympic distance tri this year.
I think I'll run a half w/ Natalie and I want to beat my old time of course.  That means I need to get my butt in gear!

A guide: trm is treadmill, I run @ 2 incline unless otherwise stated, usually warm up at 7.5, never slower than that.

Here is my record for this week:
Monday: 5 m. trm (7.5 &8 mph) 2 incline 38 min

Tuesday: 7.5 m. out (8.15 pace)  ran youngs hill, one loop and back.  ran w/ natalie.  felt like poop, had to walk a couple of times!  that hill killed me!  I was gulping for air!  feel like a weakling!  want to be much better than I am.

Wed: 5m. trm (7.5, 2 mi 8, little 9) I've gotta talk positive to myself.  I let myself jump off too often.  Did run more @ 8 than normal.

Thurs: dance, situps

Friday: 30 minutes xtraining/weights

Saturday: 10.14 miles (1:22 = 8.05 pace) Good run.  The last 2 miles alternated speeding up.  Really hit a good pace last half mile.  Is feeling easier.  I need to get new shoes soon.
